Green Engineering

A Good Idea

Description

Green Engineering is the design, commercialization and use of processes and products that are feasible and economical while reducing the generation of pollution at the source abd minimizing the risk to human health and the environment. The US EPA promotes Green Engineering by providing educational materials, software, and workshops and training on green engineering concepts.

Goal / Mission

The goal of the Green Engineering Program is to incorporate risk related concepts into chemical processes and products designed by academia and industry.

Results / Accomplishments

Participants in the workshops have found the material helpful and relevant. A number of green engineering projects have been implemented with good results, including reducing pollution at the source and minimizing worker exposures to hazardous chemicals. Several case studies are available at http://www.epa.gov/oppt/greenengineering/pubs/case_studies.html.
